This marine project began with above-rail maintenance care before the owners headed to Block Island, with further seasonal work planned around the boat’s use and storage.
Completed: the pre-trip exterior refresh
Before the trip, Blain Co. completed an above-the-rail maintenance wash, a thorough deck scrub, and SiO₂ wax protection. The work refreshed the exposed exterior and deck surfaces and added protection ahead of the owners’ time on the water.
This was a maintenance visit with an agreed scope. It was not presented as a completed full-vessel gel-coat correction. Cleaning and protection served the immediate goal, while a more involved restoration was planned separately.

Why the work was separated
A boat can need a practical clean now while a more involved finish improvement is better suited to another window. The Silverton’s first service addressed its immediate use. Its seasonal plan leaves room for follow-up maintenance and a later corrective process.
Polishing works on the condition of a suitable finish; protection helps maintain it afterward. They have different purposes. Selecting more aggressive correction for every visit would not be the same as matching the work to the boat’s condition and the owner’s plans.
Planning similar marine work
For your boat, identify the areas you want serviced: above the rail and decks, the hull from rail to waterline, stainless, or the exterior cockpit and helm. These choices form the scope of your own request; they do not imply that all of them were included in the Silverton’s completed visit.
Share the service location, length if known, and whether the boat will be afloat or on land. Hull work while afloat is possible only when equipment can safely reach every quoted surface. Otherwise that work needs an out-of-water plan.
